Great Home Theater System, August 5, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Yamaha YHT-897 5.1-Channel Network Home Theater System (Electronics) After careful consideration, I chose to purchase this 897 system for my home. I mainly purchased the system to listen to music with, but it makes movies sound great! I decided to purchase Yamaha after listening to my friends Yamaha receiver and I was blown away. His has been running 5 years strong and has no sign of slowing down. I particularly like to options which come pre-loaded into the receiver for watching sports, sci-fi, spectacular, adventure, gaming selections, pro logic, and the NEO option is awesome too. The only downside is the sub woofer, which technically is not a downside but a preference. I purchased this system bundle because of the air-play capabilities and the 10" sub which comes with the system. Now the sub is not bad, but after listening to my friends sub which he got on special, you will find that you need at least 200+watt sub for music enjoyment to be fully satisfied. Which one would be the best? Casue this one is Yamaha (they make pretty good products) and this is cheaper compared to the Samsung. Thanks!

Purchased and returned, August 21, 2012 By KBChicago (Chicago) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Yamaha YHT-897 5.1-Channel Network Home Theater System (Electronics) It's a decent system, the YHT-8797 product from Yamaha. I've had Yamaha receivers and this setup is OK if you are a beginner or have little experience with AV systems.
The reason that I returned this system is that I could buy a decent receiver and 5.1 speaker system, both better products than what is included in this Yamaha 5.1 package. (energy 5.1 speaker system and a Yamaha, Pioneer, Denon, Marantz, Onkyo or Sony receiver and the list goes on)
Personally, I really got some great gear after considering how long I'll have the system and how I can always build upon the initial purchase.
So , I got a great deal on:
Pioneer SC-63 $1000
Definitive Tech SM55's $500
and a Definitive Center $120
More money, yes, but it's a kick butt deal on a great system that I can eventually add on another pair of towers or smaller rears.
